| Put it in your diaries - Child Trust Fund Week 2007 | ||||||||||||||||
|
The first ever national Child Trust Fund Week is taking place the week commencing 15 January 2007, led by HM Revenue & Customs. Its focus will be to encourage families to make the most of their Child Trust Fund accounts. Launching the Week is celebrity mum, Sheree Murphy (formerly of TV's Emmerdale and I'm a Celebrity. Get me out of Here) and we'll also have top advice from TV's independent financial expert and author Alvin Hall, so we're hoping to generate lots of interest. We are also looking for Child Trust Fund Week partners and we'd encourage you to get involved in any way you can. For example, you may want to hold Child Trust Fund information sessions throughout the Week and secure some local publicity on the activities. To help you, we will be issuing some special CTF Week support materials, as well as some ideas on how you might like to use the Week to stimulate parents. But, in the first instance, we would love to hear from you as soon as possible and we hope you can get involved! If you are interested in finding out more, please contact ctf@23red.com |

| Hotline help for advisers | ||||||||||||||||

Are you making use of the CTF Adviser Priority Line? It's a phone support service especially for voluntary and adviser group staff. Whilst the CTF Helpline is available for general advice, the Priority Line can be used while you are actually discussing the Child Trust Fund with a client so that you can get specific information straight away. This line is not available to the general public, so getting through immediately should not be a problem. However, HM Revenue & Customs requests that you only pass on this number to fellow advisers, in order to keep the service quick. So, next time you need information on the spot for a client, call the Adviser Priority Line on 0845 302 1461. |

| One-to-one CTF training pilot launched | ||||||||||||||||
|
Readers from not-for-profit organisations may remember an audit that HM Revenue & Customs commissioned earlier in the year. We were seeking to learn more about organisations' experiences of communicating the Child Trust Fund to the UK's least financially confident parents. The information provided was invaluable and highlighted a need to develop special training for advisers on the Child Trust Fund, helping advisers pass on information to clients. As a result, HM Revenue & Customs is pleased to announce the launch of a pilot programme to train advisers. Two specialist trainers will run workshops for advisers from local, parent-facing organisations, helping them get to grips with the Child Trust Fund in the context of encouraging general saving. The newly-trained advisers will then receive materials which we are developing to help them explain the Child Trust Fund to clients. Training sessions will run from mid-September - look out for the results of the pilot project in the next issue of Child Trust Fund News. |

| Partner activities update: new partners recruited | ||||||||||||||||
|
HM Revenue & Customs is currently recruiting a new kind of Child Trust Fund partner. We are working to engage non-affiliated commercial organisations, who don't offer Child Trust Fund accounts themselves, to help promote the initiative to parents in new environments. Commercial organisations such as high street chains are ideal communicators of the Child Trust Fund because they are trusted family brands and pride themselves on providing an all-round service to families. The intention is that partners will support our work and play an awareness-raising role in the campaign. In addition, we are continuing to work with not-for-profit organisations, ensuring they have the information they need to reach out to the parents they work with. |
